Name: Anthony Chairez
Year: 4th
Major: Public Health Sciences
Position: Lead Coordinator
Biography:
I am an Orange County Native so UCI feels like home to me! I first fell in love with the health field after reading “The Hot Zone” in High School. Combined with my interest in social problems, I realized that the field of Public Health was just for me and I hope to become an epidemiologist in the near future.. Aside from DIM, I am also the Events Coordinator for the Public Health Association on campus. In my free time, I enjoy going on hikes, exploring new cities, and bonding with my friends.
What Diversity Means to Me:
Diversity to me means that voices other than our own are heard and represented in a proper manner. In terms of healthcare, not every individual is the same and they cannot receive a blanket treatment. Instead, their needs should be addressed to ensure that each individual equitable healthcare treatment.
What I Gained From the Class:
I first took the DIM class in my second year due to my interest in health disparities. I had been aware of health disparities on a surface level, but this class exposed me to analysis of health disparities on a deeper level. I love this aspect of the class because without being enrolled, I would have never been aware of these health disparities and their consequences on an individual’s health.
